i hit the record button and go on a rainy afternoon and this is the result: some breakbeat tunes, lots of old house, breaks, and techno, and a few newer songs that fit. i’ve been listening to a lot of old house and techno lately, mainly because i downloaded all the old buzzlife podcasts and have been working my way through them. so that’s where my inspiration is coming from.  if you grew up in the baltimore/dc rave scene this might have a few that bring you back. enjoy!

New decade, new tunes. yeah yeah… I’ve been anything but prolific. Honestly, i’ve been listening to the same music for the last year, and have hardly given any attention to getting new dance music, besides what I hear through some podcasts. it’s been a long time since i rapped at ya. 4 months, 2 server changes, no new music…. sorry. i’ve been busy with work, applying to go back to school, just been focused on a lot of things. i really haven’t been following music or playing out anywhere. but i found some time on halloween and decided i’d throw a short podcast together. 2nd halloween edition of married to the streets. i missed last year, because i can’t mix. anyway, the last halloween mix was drum n bass and hardcore, this is electro, baltimore club, dubstep, and some breaks. it’s a little rough around the edges, i just wanted to get it done so it’s not coming out in november. anyway, every songs got a little spooky scary to it, you know, the scary riffs, the zombies, the wanting of your soul, the heavy bass, the evil raps, the baltimore… enjoy. happy halloween.

i’ve been slackin in music life, busy in real life. this mix was inspired by listening to the new prodigy album, invaders must die. i got into elecronic music because of liam howlett and the prodigy. music for the jilted generation was the first real electronic dance music album i bought, and i listened to it non-stop when i was, i think, thirteen years old. so i’ve followed the band since then. of course, there hasn’t been much to follow since 1997. always outnumbered, never outgunned was a letdown (only the album name was really remarkable, to be honest). their last record, released in may definitely felt like a proper prodigy record. i will say, the lyrics are pretty juvenile. but the music is good. so i opened with what i think is the best song on the album — warrior’s dance — and closed with the pendulum remix of voodoo people, which i’ve never put on a mix and will never stop being a killer track. otherwise, new electro house and breaks, dubstep, and drum and bass. nothing special with the recording, just 13 tracks, mixed at a moderate speed, in one go. definitely on the ravier side of things. enjoy.

been a while since i put together a podcast… this one moves real fast, except where the tunes are so good you deserve to hear it play out. the mix goes back and forth between dubstep and bassline-heavy electro house. there are a few tunes that have been pretty well played out already (namely, tracks 6, 7, 9, and 11), but i wanted to hear them cause they’re, well, good. otherwise there’s some fresh stuff tunes here i haven’t heard getting too much play. but i’ve been a little hermetic so who knows. anyway, this might be the best podcast ever done on married to the streets, for real. i’ve said this before, but i love that the music coming out reminds me of every genre i have ever really got into: electro house, indie dance, new disco, dubstep/garage, hip-hop, hardcore/rave, drum and bass, baltimore club. 2009 has been a killer year so far for dance music. also note how i added a tracklist and artwork to the mp3 file — about time i started doing that. enjoy.

i’m loving how a handful of producers have been combining elements of dubstep, garage, old skool hardcore and rave, electro house, baltimore club, and hip-hop in single tracks. i’m thinking ac slater, tittsworth, nadastrom, jack beats. all my favorite styles from the last few years in one, and it works. if this keeps up, 2009 is going to be a big year. this mix touches a lot on that style. a fun mix that covers a lot of ground.

the fall malaise has been gettin me down, so making this was cathartic. i still haven’t tired of fidget house. i slept on some of these tunes for a little bit, so there’s a lot of good stuff in one place here. about some of the songs: i just discovered these bingo players fellas from the netherlands. they are no joke. neither are the bird peterson remixes. and of course herve and crookers kill it. i’m also glad to finally find the hijackin’ track for sale. i heard it in a mix a while ago and it was my jam, but never saw the release. that problem is solved. and an obama shout at the end… our long national nightmare is over.
